Baby Massage

Our small class sizes provide a cosy and safe space for you and your baby to work through our 5 week massage course

What is baby massage?

The process of massaging baby's originated in India hundreds of years ago, as a method of supporting wellbeing and health both physically and spiritually (many believing that the process of massaging using 'indian draining' techniques- massaging away from the body- removes negative energy) This Tradition is still prevalent today, with daily postnatal massage being used as a method to support the wellbeing of Mothers too. Baby massage was first introduced to the uk in 1970 and is now widely used both in professional practice and also within neonatal units and hospitals (Kangaroo care/skin to skin)

Touch develops in utero between 6-9 weeks gestation and is the last sense to leave us when we die. Skin is the largest organ in the body and absorbs sensory input. Without touch babies can survive but they cannot 'thrive', as humans we need connection and what better way to connect to our baby's than via their most developed sense?!

When we massage our baby's body we are sending signals to their brain which lay the foundations of healthy brain development, reassure them that they are safe and support them to form attachment to their mother. Touch also supports the release of the feel good hormone Oxytocin, pain relieving endorphins and blocks cortisol, the stress hormone that floods our body when we feel in danger (fight or flight)

Massage has so many physiological benefits, including ...

  • Massage strengthens baby's muscle fibres

  • Improves circulation

  • Helps joint mobility and flexibility

  • It helps to mature the digestive tract

  • It helps to mature the nervous system

  • Improves skin condition and expels toxins from baby's body

  • Lowers stress hormones

  • It supports the release of oxytocin, which helps mums uterus to contract and builds milk supply

  • Supports mother baby bonding

Our 5 week course works through different massage routines, giving you at the end of the course a full routine that you can use with your baby at home. Classes suitable from 4 weeks to pre-crawlers.

What parents are saying...

Celeste, second time mum

"Jasmine has created the most wonderful course - myself and my daughter loved every single session of baby massage. The setting was welcoming, the session was informative and there were so many lovely touches. We looked forward to our little slice of calm and bonding time every week. As a second time mum I found it so lovely to have some dedicated time with my little one and she gets so excited about having her massage so clearly it feels good! Jasmine is beyond lovely - we can’t recommend her baby massage course enough."

Jennifer, first time mum

"Would recommend the baby massage class to everyone! Jazz is lovely and so knowledgeable on how the massage techniques for each body part can help with other things such as teething, colic etc and not just for relaxation! My little boy loves coming here and is always so relaxed afterwards"

Chloe, first time mum

"My daughter and I have just finished our 5 baby massage sessions with Jasmine and couldn't recommend it enough. It's a lovely time to bond with your baby, in a relaxed environment, plus learning some really useful ways to not only relax your little one, but to support things like colic, teething, and congestion. Jasmine is also fantastic and adds little touches to make the group special."
